There once was a tall yellow flower with a beautiful face and a broad expansive view.

She couldn’t see what the smaller flowers could see and they were just as blind to her perspective.

One day a brave and curious flower called loudly to this tall yellow faced beauty and said,

“What can you see from up there?” 

The sunflower smiled down on the flower standing below and said, 

“When you say yes to spontaneity, you’ll discover your natural growth.

When you say yes to flow, your effort to control will subside.

When you say yes to acceptance, your intended path will emerge.

When you say yes to invisible growth, your best timing will arrive.

When you say yes to the unexpected opportunity, surprise will surprise you.

When you say yes to even more, your vision will become even more clear.”

The reply started out soft and grew louder as the smaller flower heard her own voice begin to speak up.

“I see others growing and flourishing around me, yet I don’t seem to grow like others do.

I see others blocking the sun from me, casting shadows upon me, leaving me shivering and cold in the morning dew.

I see glimpses of the sun here and there, but its gaze is so unexpectedly bright it hurts, so I curl myself up and protect myself from it.

I see myself trying, straining to grow, to catch up, to get where I want to go, but I don’t seem to ever get there.

I see the intricate details of the problems all around me, my mind automatically gathers the details, looking at them this way and then that way, turning the complexities over and over again endlessly, and going nowhere.

I feel myself wilting and I am afraid I am going to die.

You have everything I want and I don’t know how to get it.”

The beautiful sunflower was just as stunned as she listened to the little flower’s words.

She gently replied,

 “Once I was a seed that fell from my mother’s loving arms into the earth, where at first, I felt so alone.  I burrowed into the earth to feel safe and without knowing it I sprouted roots.  These roots gave me strength and stability.  Can you feel yours?”

“Yes, yes, I can feel my roots”, said the smaller flower.

“Can you feel how when you sway in the breeze, they hold you firm and keep you safe?”

“Yes, I can feel myself being firmly held.”

“Can you feel the elixir of life coming up through those roots, as if can draw nourishment from below you?’

“Oh…yes, yes when I focus on receiving that nourishment, I can feel it feeding every part of me.”

“Can you feel yourself naturally leaning in one direction?”

“Yes, yes, I can, I never noticed that before. But when I stop trying to strain upwards, I’m drawn to lean this way.””

“Can you close your eyes and keep yourself wide open to receiving the light?”

“Ya I sure can.  In fact, when I allow myself to lean with the breeze and keep my eyes closed, I feel a steady beam of sunlight. It feels like it is perfect for me. Not too much and not too little.”

“That’s wonderful.  Now can you choose to trust your roots will keep nurturing you and providing you stability and strength?’

“Ya now that I feel them I can.”

“Can you choose to trust the wind is your ally and will cause you to lean into the sun so that you receive a steady stream of nurturing love?”

“Yes, yes, I sure can. I can feel that loving sun gazing upon me.”

“Great.  Can you choose to keep doing this even though the change you desire seems invisible?”

“Yes, yes, yes, I can choose to focus on receiving all that I require rather than the lack of it.  Thank you for sharing what you know.”

“Fabulous, I choose to see you face to face with me up here joyfully swaying together in the breeze. 

Celebrating our individual growth as we look around at all the others who have done the same. 

All together we will play with the wind, and harmonize with the sun, as we grow and flourish together.”

And, so it was.
